When a page on your website does not load, an error message shall be shown to the website visitor. Since there are different errors, there are different pages that will display, but what is standard for all of them is that they're generic and probably will have nothing that is similar to the layout of your website, which could be aggravating for any website visitor. That is the main reason why website hosting providers have introduced a function named Custom Error Pages. For a number of different errors, visitors will see your unique content, which can be informative or amusing, depending on your preference, and which will match the overall design of your Internet site, so the pages will not appear as if they aren't part of your website at all. You could use this option for many errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
You'll be able to set up customized error pages for all of your domains or subdomains. The function is supported by all cloud hosting solutions which we offer, so once you log in to your Hepsia CP and go to the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up which will appear, you can select the type of error page that should show up - a default one from our system, a standard Apache web server page or a custom one. For the latter option, you'll have to specify the URL to the page, so if you use customized pages, you should upload the files in your web hosting account first. An alternative way is to use an .htaccess file placed inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each error type. The exact syntax can be located in our Knowledge Base, so that you can use this function even if you don't have any previous experience.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
Adding your own pages for each of the four error types to any web site hosted through a semi-dedicated server account with us shall be very basic and shall not take more than a couple of mouse clicks. Once you upload the files in your account, you can check out the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia Control Panel and edit each of the domains and subdomains listed there using an intuitive interface with drop-down menus. You could choose what page should appear for every error type. Your choices are a standard Apache web server page or a page from our system, and customized pages. In case you choose the last option, you will need to input the link to every page in your account, then save the change. The link or the kind of page which appears if a user encounters an error can be changed anytime. If you are more experienced, you may use an .htaccess file to set in-house made error pages as well, as opposed to using our integrated generator tool, and if you choose this option, the file should be placed inside the root directory of a given domain or subdomain.
